What is a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover is a surgical procedure that helps restore the body to what it was before pregnancy. It can also be used to correct any asymmetry or laxity after pregnancies, weight gain and loss, or aging.

The procedure involves several different surgeries: breast lift or augmentation, liposuction of the abdomen and flanks (love handles), tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), arm lift and/or thigh lift. A mommy makeover can help women reverse the effects of pregnancy on their body by restoring their waistline shape as well as improving their overall self-image.

Is there a recovery period?

The recovery period varies depending on the procedure performed and your physical response to anesthesia. Some patients are able to return to work in a few days, while others will need more time. In general, you can expect that your skin will be red and swollen for one week after your surgery; this will subside over the next two weeks.

It is important that you adhere to all post-operative instructions from our team of board-certified plastic surgeons. If any complications arise following surgery or during recovery, please call our office immediately for assistance.

Recovery time varies by patient and the procedures performed, but typically lasts two to four weeks.

  • Most patients will be able to resume normal activities within a few days after surgery. However, it is important to follow your doctor's post-operative instructions closely during recovery.
  • What to expect after surgery: you may experience some bruising and swelling; you may have pain in the area where surgery was performed; some patients experience numbness or hypersensitivity in the surgical site; if stitches are used they will dissolve on their own over time.
  • What to do during recovery: avoid lifting heavy objects while sitting upright or standing straight (for example, when lifting children); take prescribed medications as directed; immediately report any signs of infection such as redness, oozing or fever.

How long does it take?

The mommy makeover surgery usually takes one to five hours, depending on how many procedures are included in the procedure. The surgery is usually done on an outpatient basis and can be done under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation.

Can You Have Breast Surgery and Liposuction at the Same Time?

You can have breast surgery and liposuction done at the same time, but you'll need two separate surgeries.

Breast surgery and liposuction are both surgical procedures that restore your body to its natural shape. Breast surgery is a procedure that restores the breasts to their natural shape and size after pregnancy or weight loss. Liposuction removes fat from areas such as your thighs, hips and waistline.

While it's possible to combine these two procedures into one surgery session with your plastic surgeon, it may not be necessary for every patient experiencing both issues at once.

A breast implant procedure involves the breast tissue and hopefully doesn't result in scar tissue or breast pain.

The surgery usually takes one to five hours depending on how many procedures are included in the mommy makeover.

The length of your mommy makeover procedure will depend on the number of procedures you choose to undergo, as well as the size of your silicone breast implants and tummy tuck.

For example, if you opt for liposuction and smaller saline breast implants (say around 300ccs), it could take one hour or less. If you go with larger saline filled implants (350ccs), it could take two to three hours.

One thing's certain: It takes longer than it would have before — because now we're doing things like carefully shaving around those bellybutton flaps and removing loose skin from your thighs.

What are the benefits of a mommy makeover?

A mommy makeover is a combination of procedures, some surgical and some non-surgical. It’s designed to improve your body after having children. The procedures are:

  • Breast augmentation
  • Tummy tuck
  • Breast lift
  • Vaginal rejuvenation
  • Buttock augmentation
  • Liposuction

Augmented breasts will affect your posture

If you opt to have augmented breasts, you will notice that your posture has changed. The implants are heavy and will pull down on your shoulders, making it feel like you need to keep them back. You may find yourself standing taller than before and standing up straight more often.

A mommy makeover can help restore body confidence and self-esteem by addressing different aspects of the body including the breasts, abdomen, and/or vagina.

A mommy makeover can help restore body confidence and self-esteem by addressing different aspects of the body including the breasts, abdomen, and/or vagina. These procedures can be performed separately or together.

A woman’s self-esteem is something that she should not take for granted no matter what age she is. Many women today are struggling with their self-esteem because they have lost sight of what they feel comfortable in their own skin or how they want to look like.

This happens when we compare ourselves to others or we compare how we used to look versus how we currently look because having children changes everything about us physically as well as mentally.

In order for a woman to increase her self-esteem she needs to focus on what makes them happy about themselves instead of focusing on things that bring them down such as weight gain after having children, stretch marks from pregnancy (if any), lack of energy due to lack of sleep from staying up late at night changing diapers every few hours during those sleepless nights with an infant crying all night long (if any).

Benefits include increased self-confidence and improved quality of life.

Benefits include increased self-confidence and improved quality of life. After the procedure, you will notice a difference in how you look and feel.

Your new body shape will make you more confident, which can help improve your self-esteem and body confidence. You may be able to wear clothes that you couldn't wear before because they no longer fit properly or because they were unflattering on your previous body shape.

You may also feel better about yourself as a person if you have more energy or fewer aches and pains due to weight loss. This can lead to an overall improvement in the quality of your life!

Who is eligible for a mommy makeover?

You'll find that most surgeons who offer mommy makeovers are looking for patients who meet the following criteria:

  • Women at or near their ideal weight.
  • Women with realistic expectations about their outcome.
  • Women who have not had any more children since having their last child.

Candidates must be in good general health, at or near their ideal weight, not planning on having any more children and have realistic expectations about their outcome.

  • Candidates should have realistic expectations about their outcome. While you may have heard others talk about how easy it is to lose weight after surgery, for most people it takes much longer than they think. You will not look like your friend who had her mommy makeover two years ago if you are patient and persistent with your exercise program and nutrition plan.
  • Candidates should be comfortable with being away from home for up to three days while recovering from surgery; the recovery period can take up to six weeks depending on how active prior to surgery a patient was.*

Will I have scars?

All surgeons have their own techniques to minimize scarring. The technique that's used depends on the individual patient and what she wants from her surgery. For example, some patients are happy with a few scars that are relatively small, while others want no visible scars at all.

In general, there are two different types of incisions: linear (straight) incisions and curved incisions. Linear incisions heal faster than curved ones but also leave more visible scarring behind.

If you're concerned about how your scars will look after surgery, ask your surgeon about how he/she plans to minimize them before scheduling your procedure.

There are several treatment options available for post-operative scar management: cryotherapy (freezing), lasers (laser-assisted reduction), silicone sheets or gels (silicone gel sheeting), massage therapy (manual massage) and massage cream or lotion with active ingredients such as soybean oil or aloe vera extract. Your plastic surgeon will recommend which type would work best for you based on your individual needs.

How long does it take for the breast implants to settle, and for me to see the final results?

In general, you should expect to see the final results of a mommy makeover in 3-6 months. However, it can take longer than that for your body to fully adjust and settle into its new shape. It’s unlikely that you will see the final result of your surgery until 6 months after the surgery.

The best way to know if your breast implants have completely settled is by having them checked by an experienced plastic surgeon or other medical professional who specializes in breast augmentation procedures. You may also notice gradual improvement over time (upwards of 1 year), but this will depend largely on how much weight gain or loss occurs during that time period as well as how well you care for yourself post-surgery.

Scars are inevitable when undergoing any kind of surgery, but scars can be minimized through precise incision placement, proper surgical technique and diligent scar therapy.

Scars are inevitable when undergoing any kind of surgery, but scars can be minimized through precise incision placement, proper surgical technique and diligent scar therapy.

The following three examples illustrate how scars can be minimized through precise incision placement, proper surgical technique and diligent scar therapy:

  • A patient who underwent breast augmentation surgery with silicon implants placed under the muscle experienced a minimal amount of scaring due to the fact that he had little adipose tissue beneath his pectoralis muscles; his surgeon was able to place the incisions just above where those muscles meet at their anterior border (front edge). The result: only tiny white dots remain as reminders of an otherwise uneventful procedure.
  • Another patient who also underwent breast augmentation surgery but with saline implants placed over her pectoralis major muscle experienced a larger amount of scaring due to her having more adipose tissue beneath this muscle layer than did our first example patient; however, because her surgeon took care in making sure that he did not cut through any nerves or blood vessels in placing his incisions (which are located below where these nerves/vessels lie), there was no permanent nerve damage resulting from this procedure. The result: small indented lines across both breasts rather than large discolored areas which would make it difficult for our second example patient to wear certain types clothing without feeling self-conscious about what others might think about how she looks when dressed up nicely.

Are There Any Non-Surgical Methods to Increase Size?

Are there any non-surgical methods to increase size?

There are a few options for increasing breast size. The most common one is breast augmentation surgery, where saline or silicone gel filled implants are inserted into the breasts to make them larger. A breast lift can also be used to improve shape and size, but will not increase your cup size unless you have silicone implants in place as well. If you're looking for an alternative method of increasing the size of your breasts without going under the knife, consult with a plastic surgeon about these options:

  • Breast reduction surgery - reduces the volume of fat tissue in each breast so they fit better within their natural envelope of skin and connective tissue; this procedure may result in smaller nipples after healing
  • Breast enhancement surgery - enlarges existing breasts by making tiny incisions around each nipple area; this procedure usually takes several visits over time to complete
